Simon Spurrier to Write Crossed Webcomic for Avatar Press

2

Told ya so!

Back in February, I said that Simon Spurrier would soon be writing a series for Avatar Press (see here). Well this weekend, at Phoenix Comicon, Avatar announced that Si would be coming to the company to write a new Crossed webcomic called Wish You Were Here. The series will feature the artwork of Javier Barreno, and will be published weekly, starting in October, at crossedcomic.com.

Much like their weekly FreakAngels webcomic, Avatar plan to collect the weekly episodes and release them at a later date, in trade paper back and hardcover format.

Simon Spurrier says that the story will be set in “fixed community on one of the bleak little rocks off the coast of Scotland,” and one of the characters featured will be a writer, who is eerily like Spurrier himself, in an attempt to ensure that “the scrambled thoughts of our protagonist are completely and frighteningly honest.” A move which Spurrier is calling the “world’s first Comicbook Gonzo Fiction!”

He goes on to say that “Wish You Were Here is about monsters who look like people, and people who act like monsters. It’s about how a changed-world changes its inhabitants. It’s about class and violence and dignity and love.  It’s about 24 doomed souls – each with their own story – trying to find a reason to Stay Alive.  It’s about resources and strategy and survival. It’s about faith and art and misery. And in Episode #3 a cow shits out a grenade and explodes.”

Well, I for one cannot wait. For the latest updates, keep an eye on http://www.crossedcomic.com/
