2000 AD storms Free Comic Book Day
Top names in industry feature in first free sampler from British classic

2000 AD is supporting tomorrow’s Free Comic Book Day for the first time with a fantastic free sampler showcasing the best of British.

The 32-page sampler features work by John Wagner, Pat Mills, Robbie Morrison, Dan Abnett, Clint Langley, Richard Elson, Henry Flint, Al Ewing and US artist Val Semeiks – all wrapped up in a cover by Jock (The Losers).

Top strips include future lawman Judge Dredd, ancient Celtic violence in Sláine, genetically engineered dog soldiers in Kingdom and the first alien-slaughtering episode of Shakara!

It also includes a three-page strip by League of Extraordinary Gentlemen artist Kevin O’Neill, which has not been reprinted since it first appeared in 1977, and a one-page advert for ‘gentleman zombie’ Zombo – inspired by the classic Twinkie ads from US comic books!

The sampler is the first 2000 AD has produced for Free Comic Book Day, when participating comic book shops across the world give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their stores.

Matt Smith, editor of 2000 AD, said:
“We‟re big fans of Free Comic Book Day and it‟s great that we‟re able to take part this year. The sampler is a cross section of what 2000 AD and the perfect introduction for anybody who‟s neverpicked it up before. There‟s been a fantastic response from retailers keen to get copies for Free Comic Book Day and hopefully it will not only spread the word about 2000 AD but will also give a boost to comic book shops.”

2000 AD® is Britain’s longest running and most celebrated sci-fi comic, which has been at the cutting edge of contemporary pop culture since 1977. The 32 page, weekly anthology is a multi-award winning cocktail of explosive sci-fi and fantasy, infused with a mean streak of irony and wry black humour.

Giving birth to iconic characters such as Judge Dredd, Halo Jones, Strontium Dog and Rogue Trooper, the imaginative blend of hard-hitting stories and eye-popping art have made 2000 AD essential reading for its legion of fiercely loyal fans for more than 30 years – launching the careers of some of the top names in global comics, including Alan Moore, Mark Millar, Grant Morrison, Brian Bolland, Steve Dillon, Jock, and Peter Milligan.

2000 AD, its monthly sister publication The Judge Dredd Megazine, and its extensive range of collected graphic novels are available to buy online, from all major magazine retailers across the UK and Europe and from all good comic stores across the US.
