Dark Horse to Unveil Digital-Comics App at C2E2

Dark Horse announced today that they will be demonstrating a beta version of their highly anticipated digital-comics this weekend at C2E2. The App was first announced at the end of 2010 at NYCC, with a anticipated launch in early 2011. However, the application has suffered huge delays, due to complications with iTunes and the ability to sell comics “in App” and not through the iTunes marketplace (thereby cutting costs and lowing the price for end users).

While they will be demoing the App, no official release date has yet been announced.

From the press release:

Convention attendees can swing by booth #601 to experience

the new frontier of Dark Horse Comics!

March 15, 2011, MILWAUKIE, OR—Dark Horse Comics welcomes all C2E2 attendees to stop by our booth for the first look at the beta version of our highly anticipated digital-comics app. Dark Horse staff will be on hand to demonstrate the app, provide an overview of the program, and answer questions. Fans will also be able to try out the app for themselves, enter to win prizes, and receive other promotional giveaways.

At the time of the announcement, Dark Horse president and publisher Mike Richardson said, We are excited by the opportunities offered through this new channel of distribution.”

The Dark Horse comics app will launch with hundreds of downloadable comics. It will soon be available for all iOS platforms through the iTunes store. Comics can also be purchased and read on modern web browsers at Digital.DarkHorse.com. New features and platforms—including Android support—will follow shortly.

Any media interested in a scheduled demo at C2E2 should contact the Dark Horse PR department prior to the opening of the show.
