DARK HORSE COMICS SHOWCASES A LEGEND IN THE UPCOMING THE ART OF DOUG SNEYD

Hundreds of the renowned cartoonist’s Playboy cartoons are now collected in one beautiful and historic volume!

March 2, 2011, MILWAUKIE, OR—Dark Horse Comics is proud to announce the publication of The Art of Doug Sneyd. This 248-page book features over 270 celebrated color cartoons rendered by the legendary Doug Sneyd, whose cartoons have appeared in Playboy since September 1964.

The Art of Doug Sneyd features a foreword by Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and an introduction by For Better or For Worse creator Lynn Johnston. The book is scheduled for a July 13, 2011, release, making it on sale just in time for the forty-second annual San Diego Comic-Con, the largest comics and cartoon convention in North America.

The Art of Doug Sneyd is available in three formats:

* A standard-edition hardcover priced at $39.99.

* A limited edition packaged in a slipcase with a nine-by-twelve-inch, black-and-white reproduction of a winking bunny line drawing. Doug Sneyd will sign each of the one hundred limited editions, priced at $100.00.

* An ultralimited edition with a nine-by-twelve-inch color original of a Doug Sneyd winking blond in pink. The color original will be housed in a portfolio; the portfolio and book will be packaged in a clamshell box. The ultralimited editions—only thirteen are being offered—are priced at $699.99 each.

Fans and collectors of Sneyd’s Playboy artwork can preorder any of the three editions now. To preorder the regular or limited edition, contact your local comics retailer or bookstore. Those interested in one of the thirteen ultralimited editions should contact Sarah at 503-905-2402.

The book is organized into themes (including Pickups, Hookups, Breakups and Recreation: Bringing the Right Muscles into Play), and Sneyd’s eleven chapter introductions feature anecdotes and personal reflections. He also shares his creative process by including a number of original gag roughs and lead-up pencil and color roughs.

Sneyd’s career as a professional artist began in a garret studio in Montreal, where he painted commissioned portraits; he then moved to Toronto, where he worked as an advertising, magazine, and textbook illustrator. He expanded into syndicated political cartoons and, in 1964, began producing cartoons for Playboy, where a distinct brand of humor has been an important factor in the magazine’s success since 1953.
