DC have just announced that in support of Brian Azzerello and Rags Moralles’ upcoming First Wave series, they will be launching two new ongoing titles featuring the well know pulp comic book characters Doc Savage and The Spirit.

Doc Savage will debut in April, and will be written by Paul Malmont, with artwork from Howard Porter, and covers by J.G. Jones and John Cassaday. The First arc is called ‘The Lord of Lightning’, in which “Doc Savage finds himself the target of a brazen attack on New York City. And things get worse as tragedy befalls one of Doc’s allies, and it’s starting to look like someone may not survive the opening pages”.

Doc Savage will also have a Justice inc. co-feature, written by Jason Starr, with artwork by Scott Hampton. “The first installment finds our star, Richard Benson, the Avenger, chasing down the criminals that have abducted one of his own detectives, sending Benson into an heated, unforgiving rage.”

The Spirit will also debut in April, and will be written by Mark Schultz, with art by Moritat, and a cover by Ladrön. The first arc will follow “What happens when the international crime syndicate known as The Golden Tree decides to help the villainous Octopus consolidate control over Central City’s criminal underworld? Well, it’s safe to say this is the kind of thing the Spirit handles best, even if The Golden Tree has offered up one of their deadliest – and sexiest — assassins to take down the Spirit.”

The Spirit will also have a The Spirit Black & White co-feature, showcasing some of the industry’s finest talents interpretation of the classic hero. With the first issue featuring a story by writer Dennis O’Neil and artist Bill Sienkiewicz.
