Occasionally, Tharg permits some of his script & art droids to leave 2000 AD headquarters. In the Weekly Droid Watch, I’m going to be keeping an eye on what present and former droids have been up to each week. 2000 AD droids tend to go on to produce some of the most phenomenal U.S. comics, so I’ll also be listing what comics released each week have that extra special shot of thrill-power.

Droid Sightings

  • This weekend (November 19th-22nd) is the Leeds Sequential Art Festival, with the one day ‘Thought Bubble’ convention on Saturday the 22nd. Droids present include: Frank Quitely, Charlie Adlard, Doug Braithwaite, Mike Carey, Andy Diggle, Peter Doherty, Gary Erskine, Leigh Gallagher, Frazer Irving, Jock, Sean Phillips, Simon Spurrier, Kev Walker, and many more!!!!! Droid Personal Blog Updates

  • Art droid Rufus Dayglo has posted a monotone image of the cover to Tank Girl: Dark Nuggets, which will appear as a pull-out poster in the book. Looks pretty sweet! Don’t forget to get your order in, it’s out in December from Image!

  • Art droid Sean Phillips has posted an incredibly large amount of stuff to his site this week, from the current arc of Criminal as well as a ton of 28 Days Later drawings, so head over to http://surebeatsworking.blogspot.com/ to see them all. Featured below is the cover to Criminal: The Sinners, Part Two.

  • Art droid Leigh Gallagher has posted several teaser image from his upcoming Judge Dredd two-parter for Judge Dredd Megazine. Head on over here to see them all, but here’s a taster:

  • Script Droid David Bishop has announced that all of his out-of-print 2000 AD based novels, which he produced for Games Workshop’s Blame Flame imprint, have found a new home on Amazon’s Kindle. The novels include the Judge Dredd books, Bad Moon Rising, and Kingdom of the Blind; the Nikolai Dante books, The Strangelove Gambit, Imperial Black, and Honour Be Damned; and the Fiends of the Eastern Front books, Operation Vampyr, The Blood Red Army, Twilight of the Dead, Fiends of the Rising Sun.


Art Blog Updates

Eclectic Micks

Eclectic Micks are a collection of Irish professional comic book artists. They include Stephen Mooney (Angel; After the Fall), Stephen Thompson (Star Trek; New Frontier, Presidential Material: John McCain), PJ Holden (Fearless, 2000AD), Nick Roche (Transformers, Doctor Who), Will Sliney (Farscape), Bob Byrne (Mr. Amperduke, 2000AD) and Declan Shalvey (28 Days Later, Frankenstein). Every day there is a new sketch posted there, with each artist posting on a certain day. Apart from regular updates by art droids Holden and Byrne, this blog is packed full of gorgeous art from insanely talented individuals, including the amazing Declan Shavley, who is currently working on Boom! Studio’s 28 days Later title – so check it daily!

  • As art droid PJ Holden was unavailable to post anything last Saturday. So Leigh Gallagher stepped in to draw this delightful image of PJ as a sex toy… I’m going to have nightmares!

  • Art droid Bob Byrne posted an a sketch he did for the Micks signing last week at Forbidden Planet:

Scotch Corner

Scotch Corner is a collection of Scottish professional artists. They include Thomas Crielly, Gary Erskine, Andy Hepworth, Jon Hodgson and Graeme Neil Reid. Every day there is a new sketch posted there, with each artist posting on a certain day. Much like Eclectic Mick’s, you should check this blog every day, to check out amazing new artwork!

  • This Thursday, art Droid Gary Erskine posted the cover to an old cyberpunk story he did with Warren Ellis called City of Silence:
