New Kickstarter Project - No Birds, No Planes, Just me! - An Illustrated book

3

It looks like Kickstarter projects are quickly becoming the de facto way to fund self-published and creator-owned endeavors. The latest such project to be brought to my attention is  a novella called No Birds, No Planes, Just me! - An Illustrated book, which is being written by Jacques Nyemb, with illustrations by Morgan Carmichael.

Here’s a synopsis of the book:

Picture being a regular person, with a normal 9 to 5 job. One day your mundane life is shattered to pieces with the discovery of randomly appearing super powers…

Our Protagonist Daniel Douglas finds himself in this odd predicament. Daniel is a 30 something bachelor who lives in a world where the mild-mannered receive little attention. Each day constantly speeds by and all he sees in his immediate future in an eternal state of bachelorhood and enslavement by the company’s smart phone.

One day his life takes a weird turn when he wakes up with a random assortment of powers. They range from X-ray vision that enables him to see through things (not in the sexy Superman way, but see things like food digesting and coworkers implants) to his oh-so-hated, ultra disgusting, spider snot ability.

The list of powers grows and Daniel never knows when they appear or disappear. None of the powers are particularly helpful to him and they find ways to inconvenience him at every turn. As a matter of fact, we see his life spiral into shear chaos as he maneuvers in our unforgiving, modern world as he tries to figure out what made him this way.

Daniel’s story is very relatable in a sense. It forces us to take a look at our own hectic lives and realize that we all have something that makes us “Super” but we never attain the status of Super Hero because we tend to see “Super” as a colossal burden.

You can find out more about the book and the many rewards available to backers here.

There is also a series of video teasers for the project, which can be found here.
