Bluewater’s Fame: Danica Patrick Sells Out One Day After Release

1

I try to not be too judgmental when it comes to taste in comic books, you know? Each to his own, and that sort of thing. However, when I read on Bluewater’s website that their Fame: Danica Patrick bio comic had sold out just one day after release, it really made me wonder, “what the fuck is wrong with people?”  I mean, who is buying this crap? It really makes me despair!

From the press release:

The latest biography comic offerings from Bluewater Productions, “Fame: Danica Patrick” has sold out one day after its release. This extends its record to eight biography comic book title sell outs in the past six months.

Bluewater will not be authorizing a second, single-issue printing. Instead, the Vancouver, WA-based comic book publisher will be adding expanded story content, pin-ups and other illustrated extras as part of a 40-page graphic novel submission available in July.

“There was a lot of buzz regarding this particular title outside the traditional comic book buying demographic,” said Darren G. Davis, president of Bluewater, “Danica’s fans and racing fans in general have sought this title out, so I am hoping we brought home the checkered flag.”

Released on February 16th, “Fame: Danica Patrick traces the professional driver’s rise through the male-dominated ranks of auto racing. It also explores the fascination that the public has with Patrick including her exposure as the spokesperson for web hosting company Go Daddy.

Writer CW Cooke, who has also penned Bluewater’s sold out Taylor Swift biography comic, said that even the most devoted of fans should learn something new about Patrick after reading the book. Artist Valerio Giangiordano handled the art for Patrick’s story.

Another Cooke-penned biography title will hit comic-book store shelves next month: “Fame: Beyonce” (pencils by Alex Lopez). This title, along with “Fame: Black Eyed Peas” scripted by M. Zachary Sherman and illustrated by Kristopher) are scheduled for a March 10 release.

The Patrick graphic novel should be available in July 2011. It will retail for $7.99 and be available through traditional retail outlets, comic book shops and several online venues including Amazon.com and the Barnes and Noble and Borders online stores.
