Beefing Up the B.P.R.D.

0

I’m a ridiculously big fan of Hellboy, the B.P.R.D., and every thing Mignola-verse. So the second that I heard that Dark Horse were going to be doing hardcover collections of the old B.P.R.D. issue, I pre-ordered a copy before I even drew breath. I have been collecting the series since the beginning, but have them all as singles. I have very few of the TPBs, because I hate buying the same thing all over again. A hardcover though, that’s a different story!

Dark Horse just sent me over an article about the upcoming HC collection, written by DH publicity coordinator, and mustache lover, Jim Gibbons. In case readers hadn’t heard about the new HC collections, I thought I should share Jim’s post here, not the least because it’s accompanied by some spectacular preview pages, and sketches!

If you’ve not yet ordered the B.P.R.D.: Plague of Frogs HC, then head over to my Amazon Store to pre-order!

Beefing up the B.P.R.D.

12/17/2010 12:21pm

Before the BPRD: Plague of Frogs Hardcover Collection hits stores next month, check out this helpful post by Dark Horse Publicity Coordinator Jim Gibbons on what you can expect from this handsome hardcover omnibus.

As a once national and now worldwide agency armed to combat unnatural evil at every turn, the men and women of the B.P.R.D. (The Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, ‘natch!) are more aware than most that a crucial equipment improvement can mean the difference between life and death in an encounter with a ferocious frog or other creepy creatures. Thankfully, as readers, many of you B.P.R.D. diehards don’t have to personally confront the horrible hordes waiting just below Earth’s surface, but that doesn’t mean you’re not due for and appreciative of a good upgrade!

Previously only available in slim yet slick trade paperback form, Mike Mignola, John Arcudi and Guy Davis’ B.P.R.D. epic is armoring up with a massive hardcover treatment—a tome of Bureau tales like no other! This beautiful 408-page behemoth is chock-full of early B.P.R.D. stories by Mignola, as well as Christopher Golden, Geoff Johns, Tom Sniegoski, Michael Avon Oeming and more with art from Ryan Sook, Cameron Stewart, Scott Kolins, Oeming and Guy Davis. Quite simply, it’s exactly the upgrade your bookshelf needs if you already have a B.P.R.D. section and the perfect place to start catching up on this exceptional series if you haven’t yet delved into the mystifying and monstrous menace known as the Plague of Frogs.

All that aside, here’s the real kicker, folks… this upgrade to the B.P.R.D. library is a permanent one. No longer will the occult investigations of B.P.R.D. Vol. 1: Hollow Earth and Other Stories, B.P.R.D. Vol. 2: The Soul of Venice and Other Stories and B.P.R.D. Vol. 3: A Plague of Frogs be available in floppy format. The entire Plague of Frogs saga is making the move to sturdy, solid and stylish hardcover for good. As the B.P.R.D. move into a new era with B.P.R.D. Hell On Earth so to do their former collections move into a new era of publication where paperbacks have evolved into sleek and (Dare I say?) sexy hardcovers. Time marches on and, thankfully, the B.P.R.D. only gets stronger with age! Hardcover, folks… it’s the new generation of B.P.R.D. collection you and your bookshelf need in this brave new world.

-Jim Gibbons

Your B.P.R.D. upgrade hits stores on January 12, 2011, at a price of $34.99. Take a peek at the what this opus contains below.
