The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art - MoCCA is thrilled to participate in the Brooklyn Book Festival, September 12 at 4PM.

Comics and Form: Is the Medium Still the Message? Do comics change when they are released from their traditional print medium? And how? Creators, publishers, and developers discuss the expanding boundaries of the format. Featuring Robert Berry (Ulysses “Seen”), Ben Katchor (The Cardboard Valise), Jillian Tamaki (Skim). Moderated by Karen Green (Columbia University). This panel takes place on the North Stage.

About the participants

Robert Berry’s webcomic Ulysses Seen presents a graphic adaptation of James Joyce’s masterpiece with full scholarly apparatus.

Ben Katchor is the creator behind Julius Knipl, Real Estate Photographer; The Jew of New York; The Cardboard Valise; Hotel & Farm; and most recently, Shoehorn Technique and has collaborated on multimedia musical productions such as “The Rosenbach Company” and “A Checkroom Romance.”

Jillian Tamaki is the artist behind the New York Times Best Illustrated Book, Skim, which was also nominated for a Governor General’s Literary Award and Eisner Award and won a Doug Wright Award and Ignatz Award. In Spring 2010, she published a collection of sketches and comics for Drawn & Quarterly, titled Indoor Voice. She is also the artist behind Gilded Lilies.

Karen Green is the librarian for graphic novels at Columbia University.
