Amazing Spider-Man #583 is the Best-Selling Comic of the Decade!

4

Apparently, it’s a year today since Marvel released Amazing Spider-Man #583, that famous issue of the series that featured an appearance from Barack Obama. I already knew that the issue was the best-selling comic of the last year (see here for the Top 500 comics of 2009), but according to Marvel, it was also the best-selling comic of the last decade! That’s pretty damn impressive!

Sadly, Obama’s appearances in comics didn’t stop with this iconic cover, and pretty soon everyone wanted to get in on the act. We’ve had Obama meets Army of Darkness, Obama meet Youngblood, Barack the Barbarian, and the Obama family puppy has not only appeared in Pet Avengers, but Bluewater made a biography of the bloody dog!

So now that it’s been a year since this media sensation, could be please stop sticking the man’s face in every crappy comic in need of a sales boost. Please!!!

Happy Anniversary, Amazing Spider-Man #583!

Marvel is proud to celebrate the one year anniversary of the historic Amazing Spider-Man #583¸ featuring Spider-Man and a very special guest-star! As the unrivaled best-selling comic book of the decade and a mainstream media topic even twelve months later, this issue continues to take the world by storm and we thank both fans and retailers for saying “Make Mine Marvel” in record setting fashion!

  1. Monetta says:

Weird thing is that last week people in the media were complaining about Obama being used in a billboard ad selling a coat he was wearing. All I was thinking was that it was a good thing these people don’t read comics.

Haha! Definitely, I think their heads would explode!
