Julia Ormond In Talks To Play Superman’s Kryptonian Birth Mother in ‘Man of Steel’

Deadline.com has the exclusive scoop that Warner Bros and Zack Snyder are in talks with Julia Ormond to play Superman’s Kryptonian birth mother, Lara Lor-Van, in Man of Steel. The deal is expected to wrap up shortly.

If successful, Ormond will join a cast that includes Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, and Michael Shannon as the villain General Zod. Russell Crowe has also been offered the role of Superman’s Kryptonian father, Jor-El, but the deal has not yet been fainalized.

Man of Steel is set to reboot the Superman film franchise for Warner Bros. Zack Snyder is directing the movie, with production by Chris Nolan, Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, and Deborah Snyder. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer, based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

Slated for release in December 2012, the new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
