From the press release:

On their panel this weekend at WonderCon, Oni Press revealed the first preview pages of Phil Gelatt & Tyler Crook’s new historical fiction, PETROGRAD, the untold tale of the international conspiracy behind the murder of Gregorii Rasputin. During the height of the first World War, a reluctant British spy stationed in the heart of the Russian empire is handed the most difficult assignment of his career: orchestrate the death of the mad monk, the Tsarina’s most trusted adviser and the surrogate ruler of the nation. The mission will take him from the slums of the working class into the opulent houses of the super rich. He’ll have to negotiate dangerous ties with the secret police, navigate the halls of power, and come to terms with own revolutionary leanings, all while simply trying to survive!

Based on historical documents and research, PETROGRAD is a tense, edge-of-your seat spy thriller, taking the reader on a journey through the background of one of history’s most infamous assassinations, set against the backdrop of one of the most tumultuous moments in 20th century history. Writer Phil Gelatt spend copious amounts of time researching the work and newcomer Tyler Crook put two hard years of labor into the stunning artwork. PETROGRAD hits store shelves August 3rd, 2011.

If Tyler Crook’s name sounds familiar but you just can’t place him it’s because he’s been in the comic news lately. There was some surprise a few weeks ago when Mike Mignola announced Mr. Crook, a relative unknown, as the new artist on BPRD and Oni has him jumping in for issue number fourteen of Cullen Bunn & Brian Hurtt’s supernatural western hit THE SIXTH GUN, also this August. PETROGRAD will be Tyler’s first published work, but once fans see his art on the book they will quickly realize why he is so sought after.

PETROGRAD by Phil Gelatt and Tyler Crook debuts August 3rd as a $29.99 two-color hardcover coming in at 274 pages. Anyone even remotely interested in the mad monk or the history of British intelligence will find this comic absolutely captivating!
