Cobie Smulders in Final Negotiations for ‘Avengers’ Role

1

The Hollywood Reporter has the news that “How I Met Your Mother” actress Cobie Smulders is in final negotiations to take on a role in Marvel’s The Avengers.

Last week, we reported that four actresses would be undergoing screen tests on Friday, for one of the final roles to be cast in the movie, a role that Samuel L. Jackson described as being  Nick Fury‘s “sidekick.” Some have speculated that the role may be that of Avengers/S.H.I.E.L.D team member Janet van Dyne/the Wasp, but Marvel have declined to comment.

The test deals for the role involved a nine-picture option, with a 30-day hold on the actresses.

The Avengers is being written and directed by Joss Whedon, and the cast announced thus far includes Scarlett Johansson (as the Black Widow), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor).  The Avengers is scheduled to start shooting in late April. The release dat has been set for May 4th, 2012.

Repped by UTA and Roar, Smulders stars on the CBS series How I Met Your Mother.
