UPDATED: 3A Toys Releasing a Statue of Mongrol from A.B.C. Warriors (2000 AD) on Feb 27th!

1

If you remember, about a year or so ago, we shared the news that 3A Toys were developing a line of figures/statues based on characters from 2000 AD. Well, with no news coming out of the production company for some time, they have just announced that they are ready to release the first of seven 2000 AD figures, with: Mongrol, of A.B.C. Warriors fame!

The first of a series of seven A.B.C warrior statues, Mongrol goes onsale this Monday, February 27th, for  $250 USD, which includes worldwide shipping from Bambalandstore.com. The statue will also be available from select retailers.

I have to admit, that is a damn high price tag, but the statute looks really stunning, and appears to be highly crafted piece of work, so it’s probably worth the money if you are into statues etc. I don’t think I’m going to be able to afford it though, as we’re currently paying hundreds of dollars in vets bills for our sick parrot

Check out a couple of image of the statue below, and if anyone from 3A is reading this, I will gladly accept a review copy, and will cover the hell out of it!

UPDATE: 2000 AD have put out an official press release:

Classic 2000AD Character Brought to “Smushing” Life by threeAToys

One of the all-time classic characters from the pages of 2000 AD is being brought to life by threeAToys.

Mongrol is the first in a series of 1/6th figures of the ABC Warriors – a band of renegade robots designed to fight a future war and able to withstand ‘Atomic’, ‘Bacterial’ and ‘Chemical’ warfare – by renowned toys creators threeAToys.

Known for his brutal catchphrase „Mongrol smush!‟, the immensely strong battle-droid is always itching for a fight. Standing at 30cm high, and with a shoulder width of 35cm, this fully articulated figure will make a thrilling addition to any fans‟ collection.

This exclusive Mongrol figure will go on sale from threeA online and to retailers on Monday 28 February for a recommended retail price is US $250. There will also be a „stealth‟ Black Mongrol exclusively available through Bambaland.com

While most threeA toys go on sale for limited periods, Mongrol’s ordering window is to be left open – giving fans of both 2000 AD and stunning-looking toys a much better chance to get their hands on this fantastic piece.

Based out of Hong Kong, threeA is a toy, poster, print and clothing production house owned by Ashley Wood and Kim Fung Wong, known for its popular high-end toys of Woods‟ own comic book creations and now licensed 2000 AD characters. Wood is an internationally recognised master of the comic art and has worked on 2000 AD‟s most famous character, Judge Dredd.

Matt Smith, editor of 2000 AD, said:
“2000 AD has produced some of the most innovative and famous characters in comic book history. So for threeA, a company with such a good reputation for making quality toys, to produce figures based on them is a match made in heaven for us.

“Mongrol is one of the classic characters from 2000 AD and it‟s great to see him brought him to life like this, fit for any discerning fan‟s home.”

Ashley Wood said:
“The upcoming release of Mongrol is a watershed moment for me personally and for 3A – 2000 AD was a driving force in inspiring me to become an artist, and now being able to work with Rebellion to bring all the great characters into the world of toys is an honor!”
