Summit Hires Jon and Erich Hoeber to Write Sequel to RED

0

Collider.com is reporting that sources have revealed to them that Summit has hired screenwriters Jon and Erich Hoeber to write a sequel to RED, the hit action/comedy movie based on the DC/Wildstorm comic series by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner.

It should be noted though that this doesn’t mean that a sequel has been greenlit by the studio, and no deals have yet be made with the stars of the first movie, Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich.

RED was big box office hit, so it hardly comes as a surprise that Summit would want to follow up on this success. The first movie had a budget of $58 million, and pulled in $22 million on it’s opening weekend, back in October. The movie stayed on the cinema for weeks, and is still showing in some places. So far, it’s gross almost $90 million! In addition, the movie got a Golden Globe Nomination, and while these things don’t mean much to the average person of the street, to a movie studio, it’s a pretty big deal.
