Emma Stone Confirms Mechanical Webshooters in Spider-Man Requel

Last week, Sony Pictures released the first official photo of Andrew Garfield dressed in a newly redesigned Spider-Man costume, from the upcoming Spider-Man Reboot/Requel (see here).

This photo got the comic forums buzzing with talk, because some fans thought that they could detect what looked like webshooters underneath the wrist area of the costume. Though, frankly, I can’t see what the heck they are talking about!

Well, yesterday, during the Golden Globes, MTV caught up with actress Emma stone, who is playing Gwen Stacy in the movie, and asked her about it. You can see the video below, but in response to the question, all she said was, “It’s a device”. Make of that what you will, though it does hint that Peter may well be using the mechanical webslingers originally devised by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. However, as MTV pointed out, it could also be a device that  facilitates the slinging of organic webs. Who knows?

The new movie is directed by Marc Webb, and is set to reboot the Spider-Man movie franchise with a much younger Peter Parker, who is still in high-school. The film is said to take its inspiration from Ultimate Spider-Man, by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley - but let’s home that they don’t all talk in Bendis dialogue!

The cast includes  Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, as well as  Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Irrfan Khan, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Campbell Scott, C. Thomas Howell, Julianne Nicholson and Annie Parisse. See more at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0948470/

The release date has been set as July 3, 2012.
