David Finch Leaves Marvel, and Signs an Exclusive Contact with DC Comics

1

DC’s The Source blog revealed today that Canadian artist David Finch has signed an exclusive contract with DC comics. This comes as somewhat of a surprise for fans, because Finch is known primarily for his early work at Top Cow, and his more recent work at Marvel. The only time that Finch has worked on a DC character was the Darkness/Batman one-shot, way back in 1997.

Regardless, this is a huge deal for DC, because Finch is a brilliant artist, and his runs on titles such as Avengers, New Avengers, and Ultimatum, are revered by fans.

Finch had the following to say about the move:

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the DC family! It feels too good to be true that I’m going to have the chance to draw some of the most dynamic, iconic, and fun characters in the business. I’ve been a DC comics fan for a very long time, so it’s a very big honor to finally have a part in their creation.”

In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Finch goes on to say:

“I’ve drawn just about every big DC character, either through commissions or at conventions, at one point or other, but it really does feel like new territory for me… I love the big three, obviously, along with every other comic book creator that aspires to work on superheroes. I’m a huge Lobo fan… I’m especially drawn to DC’s great cast of villains. They’re easily as iconic as the heroes, and they’re what keep the books so interesting”

Huge congratulation to David for signing on with DC, and I can’t wait to see him draw my favourite DC characters!
