Marc Webb to Direct the New Spider-Man Movie

marc_webb_2474299 The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Marc Webb has finalized a deal to direct Columbia’s new Spider-Man movie franchise reboot.

As previously announced, after Sam Raimi pulled out of directing the fourth movie in the series, Columbia decided to reboot the and scale down the franchise.

Webb will be working with producers Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, with a script by Jamie Vanderbilt that sees a high school aged Peter Parker, who is dealing with the knowledge that his uncle died even though the teen had the power to stop it.

In stead of being based around the original 1960s Spider-Man origin story, which Sam Raimi used for inspiration, this new movie is based around the origin story of the Ultimate Spider-Man series by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley.

The budget for for movie is in the $80 million range, and it is set to start filming this year, with a cast of relative unknowns.

Marc Webb has also been optioned to direct a sequel.
