Free Comic Book Day 2010 Gold Comic Book Lineup Announced

1

Diamond Distribution have supplied Hypergeek with the full list of gold sponsor titles for Free Comic Book Day 2010.

This year’s line-up is packed full of all-ages titles, with Boom! doing a Toy Story issue, Ape doing Shrek, Archaia doing a Fraggle Rock/Mouse Guard flip-book, Image doing a sampler of their Silverline titles,  and Archie Comics doing… Archie, of course! It’s always good to see kid appropriate titles in the FCBD line-up, as it’s a great opportunity to attract new readers to the medium. However, there is an arguement that the only people who participate in FCBD are people who are already comics fans, so maybe it doesn’t help at all!

I’m looking forward to grabbing Yow! The John Stanley Library, from Drawn & Quarterly, as well the Doctor Solaris/Magnus book from Dark Horse, which sees Jim Shooter re-imagining two classic characters. Marvel’s Iron Man/Thor book could be fun, but I’ll withhold judgment until I know a little more about the book. Mouse Guard is also a great all-ages title, so I’ll probably grab that!

I’ve never been into G.I. Joe, so I’ll be skipping IDW’s entry, and DC’s War of the Supermen is written by James Robinson, so I’ll be skipping that too. Wow! It says a lot about Robinson’s writing that I wont even grab a free issue by him, maybe if DC were to pay me…

All Ages books, new content takes center stage for ninth annual comics event

(BALTIMORE, MD) — (December 10, 2009) — Kids comics? We have plenty of them! New content and storylines? You get that, too!

The Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) Committee is pleased to announce the Gold Sponsors and their Comic Books for FCBD 2010, which will be held Saturday, May 1st, 2010.

Selected by retailers who serve on the FCBD Committee, this year’s roster of Gold Sponsors and their books includes a comic book for everyone’s tastes.

“This year’s roster of Gold Comics looks amazing,” said FCBD spokesperson, Elissa Lynch. “We’re pleased to showcase the best the comics industry has to offer—and hopeful that this year’s comics will drive new customers to see what’s great about comics and their local comic book shop.”

Gold Sponsor comics include special FCBD editions designed to attract new readers into comic shops with some of the industry’s most widely recognized characters. A complete listing of FCBD titles, including all Gold and Silver Sponsor comics will be announced on December 23rd and can be ordered through the January issue of Diamond Comic Distributors’ PREVIEWS catalog, on sale at all comic book shops on January 6th, 2010.

Additionally, Mad Engine, Quebecor Printing, and Upper Deck are also serving as Gold Sponsors of the ninth annual FCBD event through their generous support of FCBD’s marketing and promotional efforts.
