Edgar Wright Plays Though His Record Collection on BBC Radio 6

scott_pilgrim_poster I know this isn’t strictly to do with comics, but I’m a big fan of Spaced, Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz and there’s definitively some comic sensibilities to them. Also, Wright is involved with two big comic to movie adaptations of Scott Pilgrim, and Tintin.

I was sent this story by Cory Casoni, the Director of Sales & Marketing at Oni Press, who thought that this would be right up Hypergeek readers’ alley. So thanks goes to Cory for discovering this.

It seems that last week, BBC Radio 6 gave Edgar Wright two hours of air time to plays tunes from his record collection and explains how certain music comes to be used in certain parts of films. It’s a really interesting listen, and I’ve often wondered how a good director chooses what music goes with what scene. The choice of music used in a movie is far more important than many people realize, as the music really sets the tone, and can really make or break a scene. In fact, it’s such an important factor, that on big productions they have teams of people whose job it is to pick the music used, and arrange permissions etc.

Edgar’s music tastes are vastly different from my own, it would seem. He seems to be into lots of rock, indie, glam etc. Whereas the music that sets the tone for Hypergeek is more metal, industrial, and prog. In fact, this whole site is named after the song ‘Hypergeek‘ from the album Synchestra, by the Devin Townsend Band, which you can listen to here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFIgNzXjke4!
