Marvel Comics & Stephen King Announce New Dark Tower SeriesDark Tower: The Gunslinger

Constant Readers of Hypergeek probably know that I am borderline obsessive about Stephen King’s Dark Tower series. In fact, on my recent trip home to the UK I made sure to bring back all of my first edition limited release hardcovers of the original series, with hand-sewn binding… all packed in bubble wrap of course!

I was therefore ecstatic when Marvel Comics informed me this morning that next year will bring another Dark Tower comic series! Many feared that the current series, Dark Tower: Fall of Gilead would mark the end of Marvel and King’s collaboration, as sales have not exactly been record-breaking. however, 2010 will see the launch of Dark Tower: The Gunslinger, from the best selling-team of Peter David, Robin Furth and Richard Isanove (Jae Lee is out.)

The  new arc will explore the life of Roland Deschain, revealing how and why he began his pursuit of the man in black across Mid-World’s Mohaine Desert!  Set following the climactic Battle of Jericho Hill, Dark Tower: The Gunslinger, will give fans their first taste of original Roland stories since the beginning of Marvel’s Dark Tower series, as all previous stories we just expansions on stories mentioned in the original series.

Beginning another epic tale, told over multiple limited series, Dark Tower: The Gunslinger marks another milestone for the graphic fiction sensation that’s captivated fans worldwide. The Dark Tower collaboration between Marvel and Stephen King has drawn accolades from all corners, revolutionizing the comic book industry with previously unprecedented mainstream media coverage and the first worldwide midnight openings for a graphic fiction series.

“We are extremely excited to continue our epic journey into the Dark Tower universe with The Gunslinger,” says Ruwan Jayatilleke, Senior Vice President, Strategic Development-Acquisitions & Licensing. “And we are equally ecstatic to continue our collaboration with Stephen King as well as keeping comic book fans on their toes!”

Stay tuned to www.marvel.com and www.stephenking.com for more news on this momentous new Dark Tower series.
