Com.x Announces 2009-2010 Projects at Long Beach Comic Convention 2009

Com.x just revealed to Hypergeek details of all their upcoming titles for 2009 and 2010, which were originally revealed during Com.x’s return to exhibiting in the United States for the first time in four years at the Long Beach Comic Convention October 2-4.

I’m a huge fan of Com.x’s line of amazing titles, particularly Cla$$wars and Razorjack, and can’t wait to get my hands on all of these!

2009 Titles

Forty-Five (45) – Slated for December, 2009, Forty-Five is our highly- anticipated book consisting of a series of Superhero interviews documented by James Stanley. As a soon-to-be father, James wants to find out what lies in store for his family if his unborn child turns out to have a Superpower, so he takes to interviewing forty-five different superheroes, from young to old. Each page of art has been illustrated by a different comic artist, with no predetermined brief given; just the written page as guidance. The concept is unlike anything you’ve seen in comic books so far; it truly is an original attempt at redefining what people expect from a comic book format. Featuring the art of Liam Sharp, Jock, Sean Philips, Randy Green, Charlie Adlard and Dan Brereton, to name but a few of the 45 contributors. 45 is spotlighted in the October 2009 Diamond Previews catalogue and will ship in December (DCD# OCT090823). Forty-Five was #17 of “50 Things You Need” in Wizard issue 217.

Cla$$war Series #1 TPB – Hot off the heels of the announcement of a film of the book “tagged for development” with Mandeville Films (producers of The Surrogates and The Proposal), Com.x are pleased to announce the release of the softcover edition of their award-winning, sell-out title, Cla$$war. Written by Rob Williams and with art by Trevor Hairsine & Travel Foreman, the book will also be available in December 2009.

2010 Titles

Duppy’78 – three Jamaican crime families vie for control of Kingston using black market ammo, potent narcotics, and the supernatural. A re- imagining of Jamaican and Rastafarian ghost stories, told in the context of a 1978 gangland drama, Duppy‘78 is written by Casey Seijas and illustrated by Amancey Nahuelpan B.

CASEY SEIJAS is a virtually unknown 10-year comic book veteran, having served as a writer and editor for MTV, DC/Vertigo Comics, Wizard magazine and a slew of other media outlets. DUPPY ‘78 is his first credited comic work.

AMANCAY NAHUELPAN B. was born in Canada and grew up in Chile. In 2006 he published Hijos de P, a noir genre comic, winner of the Chilean Professional Institute’s Fantasy and Comics Festival Award for Best Artist and Best Series in 2007.

Monster Myths – Creator and illustrator, John Lupo Avanti, uses the characters and the neighborhood that he grew up in to realize a story that expresses modern American issues, such as political grudges, war, fear mongering, corruption and greed. An over-the-top dark comedy pitching violent biker gangs against imposing clean-cut real estate developers, and in the middle of all of this is an unlikely hero stirring the pot in hopes to save his neighborhood.

John Lupo Avanti is an artist living in Northern California. His work has been featured in numerous advertising campaigns.

Nicodemus Flynn – Created by Alex De-Gruchy. An original graphic novel set in a world where humans, monsters and supernatural creatures co- exist. There are highly-trained, specialist individuals who hunt these creatures, and Nicodemus Flynn is one of the best, having spent the last fifteen years hunting demons and monsters across the globe. He is a self-styled vigilante, protecting the innocent and thwarting the
powers of evil.

Alex De-Gruchy has had a number of short stories published by various comic book companies including Alterna Comics and Ronin Studios and his first full-length mini-series will be published by Resolution Comics in 2010. Robin Simon Ng is a self-taught comic book artist born in 1976, in Sarawak, Malaysia. After graduating from his studies in Graphic Design, he worked in several designing and advertising firms before moving into 3D animation and storyboarding.
