Anthony Hopkins to Play Odin, in Thor the Movie!

Both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety are reporting that Anthony Hopkins is in negotiations to play Odin in Thor, the Paramount Pictures & Marvel Studios adaptation of the classic Marvel Comics title of the same name.
Hopkins is set to join a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and Natalie Portman as Thor’s love interest, Jane Foster. The movie is screenplay is in the hands of Mark Protosevich and Zack Stentz, with Kenneth Branagh in the director’s chair.
Odin, is considered the chief god in Norse the pantheon, and the ruler of Asgard. Odin is the father of the Thunder God Thor, and also the adoptive father of Loki.
The plot of the movie is set to span from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
The movie is set to be released on May 11th 2009!
