Andy Diggle Announces Plans to Hold a Comic Convention at ‘The Storey’ in Lancaster

1

This morning, British comic writer Andy Diggle officially announced, via Twitter, that he plans to organise a new comic convention, to be held at the Storey Creative Industries Centre in Lancaster, in August 2010.

As soon as Diggle announced these plans Twitter exploded with comic fans and creators telling him how keen they were on this idea. Several big names have already expressed interest in attending the convention, including Jock, CB Cebulski, Pia Guerra, Antony Johnston, PJ Holden, Jamie McKelvie, Emma Vieceli, Simon Spurrier, Rob Williams, Tony Lee, Al Ewing, Aaron Campbell, Simon Gur, Lee Garbett. Obviously this is FAR from a confirmed guest list, but as an initial ‘pencil me in’ reaction, that is pretty damn astounding. I’d love to go myself if I’m back in the UK next August, which isn’t that unlikely. It’d be a great way to catch up with all my UK comic industry friends who don’t usually make it to the U.S. conventions… *gears begin turning in Edward’s head*

About Andy Diggle & The Storey:

Andy Diggle is a freelance comic-book writer, currently under exclusive contract to Marvel Comics. Formerly the Editor of influential British sci-fi comic 2000 AD, is now the regular writer on Marvel’s DAREDEVIL and THUNDERBOLTS. Andy has over a dozen graphic novels in print, including JUDGE DREDD, HELLBLAZER, BATMAN, SWAMP THING, ADAM STRANGE and GREEN ARROW: YEAR ONE. His cult action-thriller series THE LOSERS is currently being developed into a movie starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Idris Elba and Zoe Saldana. London born and bred, Andy moved to Lancaster in 2005, and was one of the first residents to move into the newly-refurbished Storey Creative Industries Centre.

The Storey has been Central to Lancaster’s artistic, technical and scientific innovation for 130 years. The Storey Institute has been remodeled as a purpose-designed centre for the creative industries, ensuring the building retains its prominent position while fulfilling the expectations of the 21st century creative industry.

The Storey is where art and industry spark. Two of the North West’s principal arts organisations are already planning to move into the building and we expect to reach full occupancy very quickly.

The Storey is a not for profit organisation set in the heart of Lancaster’s conservation area. Opposite Lancaster Castle, famed for its part in the notorious Pendle witch trials, and close to the historic Priory, on a clear day The Storey features views of the whole of Morecambe Bay, from Blackpool to Barrow, via the Lakes.

The Storey Garden is a relaxing environment for residents to recharge their creative batteries and chill, the only thing to disturb them will be the birdsong and squirrels. The garden will also be a venue for outdoor catering, concerts and other special events.
